The Head Coach of the Flying Eagles of Nigeria, Coach Aliyu Zubairu, has declared that the team will approach their next group stage game against Kenya with all sense of positivity
The gaffer disclosed this while fielding questions from journalists following the goalless draw against Morroco on Sunday.
While noting that the main target of the Flying Eagles was to secure the maximum points in the game against the Young Atlas, he stressed that the draw isn’t totally a bad result for his team.
He said, “Our intention was to go for the three points at stake, but we couldn’t have it. We had one point, and it’s still good. We will concentrate on the last match against Kenya and make sure that we get three points.
Explaining the tactical approach of the game, Coach Zubairu stated that his boys succeeded in interpreting the instructions given to them by keeping the Morrocans at bay, even though they couldn’t create more chances.
“We saw their match against Kenya
and we realised that the strength of their game is from the two flanks- definitely you just have to make sure that they don’t operate from the flanks and that’s why it really attracted two or three players at every given time so that that we put check on the flanks- but all the same, it’s more of a tactical game even though we didn’t create too much chances -but the tactics worked because we wanted to deny them from both sides and we succeeded in doing that”
Nigeria now has four points from two games, same as Morocco, who only sit at the top of the log, having scord more goals in their 3-2 win over Kenya in their first game.
Coach Aliyu said his boys would not leave any stone unturned in their next game against Kenya, who are winless in their last two games and are first-timer in the tournament.
“We have seen their game against Morroco and see what they can offer. We are going to approach the match with all sense of positivity, and we are not going to underate them. Our priority is to win and secure the maximum points.
Coach Aliyu will now roll out his aces when Nigeria squares up to the bottom-placed Kenyans on Wednesday while the two North African teams, Morroco and Tunisia, face each other in another group B encounter.
