Speaking on the incidence, Comrade Ugwu Adolphus, union chapter Chairman said that some of its members who were not willing to embrace the E-call up booking policy recently accused him of being complicit to policy implementation.

According to him, E-call up, a federal government innovation and electronic procedure for booking of trucks aimed at enhancing free traffic flows at seaports.

Ugwu noted that some members who were not willing to embrace the innovation and its booking fees had resorted to accusing the union’s leadership of conieving with the Nigerian Ports Authority(NPA) to extort members.

“Let me put the record straight and debunk insinuations about us conieving with NPA and defrauding truck Drivers through E- Call up bookings”

“When the E-Call Up booking system was first introduced, we communicated our concerns too NPA.

“We also highlighted the fact that our unique operational conditions here had made the system unnecessary, as we had no issues of ports congestions which the system was designed to address.

“Despite our pleas, authorities insisted on implementing it so we had no option than embrace it, this is patriotism, not sabotage as wildly circulated.

“My influence, as a leader is limited to the union, it does not include overriding federal government’s directives, hence, our stance to embrace the E-call up,” he added.

He also applauded the Ugwu led union for demonstrating integrity and responsibility in prioritizing members interests alongside federal government’s operational policies at the port.

“This administration has done well, protecting our rights and previllages and ensuring comensorate haulage fare for truck drivers, we should support them to do more,” he said.
