Nigeria Customs Service Aims for Excellence in Upcoming African Women’s Volleyball Club Championship

The African Women’s Volleyball Club Championship is just around the corner, and Nigeria is gearing up to host the tournament in Abuja from April 1 to 14.

 

According to Samuel Onikeku, Secretary General of the Nigeria Customs Service Sports Department,said as the host representative, the Nigeria Customs Service is not only focused on providing top-notch facilities and equipment but also on making a strong impression with our team at the upcoming African Women’s Volleyball Club Championship in Abuja .

He said having participated in this competition since 2017, our best finish to date has been fourth place in Tunisia in 2021.

“ As hosts, we are determined to qualify for the semi-finals and ultimately make it to the finals.

“ To achieve this, we have been preparing our team since January, conducting selection camps, strengthening our roster, and engaging in friendly matches,” he said.

He also said that the team has been in Benin Republic, competing in friendly matches to stay in top form.

“ With six wins under their belt, they are set to face Togo and Ghana before returning home.

“ By the time they arrive back to Nigeria, they will be in peak competition shape and mindset, ready to take on the challenge,” he said .

Onikeku is optimistic that the team has what it takes to excel in this competition.

He said they have provided the team with top-notch equipment, jerseys, and shoes to ensure they have everything they need to perform at their best.

“ We are confident that our team will reciprocate our efforts with a strong performance.

“ We want to make Nigerians proud and show that we are not just hosting to participate, but to win,” he said.

This competition is a qualifier for the World Cup Championships, and the African champions will represent the continent in Thailand in August.

“ We are determined to fight for that one spot and I believe that our meticulous preparation will pay off.

“We are not just hosting; we are hosting to make an impression and to win. With the perfect preparation in place, we are confident that we will achieve our goal,” Onikeku added .

With over 20 countries expected to compete for honors from April 1 to 14 in Abuja for Women’s Volleyball Club Championship.
