Abubakar Bukola Saraki Ilorin Football Club edged Godswill Akpabio FC 2-1 in the Nigeria National League (NNL) matchday five encounter at the Kwara State Stadium Complex, Ilorin, on Saturday Afternoon.
Jamiu Sa’ad headed the Saraki Boys into the lead in the 16th minute, courtesy of a pinpoint delivery from Sani Ramos. Despite the visitors’ relentless pressure, ABS Ilorin FC held on to their slender advantage until the break.
Godswill Akpabio FC drew level in the 63rd minute through Dung Eugene’s strike, after hitting the woodwork twice. However, ABS Ilorin FC secured the win in dramatic fashion, courtesy of Moshood Olaniyan’s late penalty kick.
Coach Sani Ahmed Sarduana in his post match reaction praised the visiting team’s tactical approach noting that they gave a good fight.
“I commend Godswill Akpabio FC for their highly tactical display. We observed their wingers were mobile and made adjustments to counter them.”
He added, “It’s a good thing we came back to win, but we must work on finishing games strongly and avoiding concessions.”
With this win, ABS Ilorin FC have now moved up to fifth on the NNL standings, up next would be a trip to Osun United on the 18th of January.
