CAFWCL play-off: 5-Star Edo Queens spank AS Garde 5-0,dedicates victory to Gov Obaseki, First Lady
Edo Queens Football Club have dedicated their 5-0 victory over AS Garde of Niger in the CAF Women Champions League qualifications to the Edo state Governor Mr Godwin Obaseki and his wife the First Lady Dr Betsy Obaseki.
Captain of the Nigeria’s women premier league champions Suliat Abedeen said that the team is grateful for the love and care shown them by the Edo state Governor and his wife which is evident in their performance this season.
The mercurial midfielder was speaking on Sunday evening after their emphatic 5-0 thrashing of As Garde day 1 of the WAFU-B CAF Women’s Champions League qualifiers at the Stade de Yamoussoukro in Cote D’Ivoire.
According to Suliat Abedeen who also heaped praise on the chairman, Edo state Sports Commission Olympian Yussuf Alli and management of the club said they have never had it so good before the administration of Governor Godwin Obaseki.
“We dedicate our first victory to our papa and our mama ; Governor Obaseki and the First Lady.
There is no better way to appreciate the commitment of Edo state government, the motivation;the welfare we enjoy than to post convincing results as a way of reciprocating our government kind gesture. “.
She said, promising that the team is in Cote D’Ivoire to make Edo state and Nigeria proud.
The Moses Aduku-led team opened scoring in the 35th minute, courtesy of Emem Essien.
Suliat Abideen made it 2-0 within,two minutes into the first half added time with a classy spot kick.
A rocket free kick from Blessing Iliveda from 22 meters gave the Nigerien side a comfortable lead four minutes into the second half.
Substitute Esther Moses made it 4-0 for the Nigeria women’s football league champions in the 71st minute before another substitute, Joy Jerry, hit the roof with a sublime strike to seal victory for the Nigerian side in the 74th minute
The Nigeria’s representatives sit atop group B with 3 points and a 5-goal advantage. The Benin-based girls will take on Hassaca Ladies in match day two on Wednesday, August 14 at the same stadium.
