In view of their statuses as model for excellence and immense contributions to football development, two important awards in the maiden season of Pro Route League have been named after Taiwo Awoniyi and Coach Aliyu Zubairu
While the highest goalscorer award is named after Awoniyi, the Nottingham Forest and Super Eagles of Nigeria Striker, best Coach award is named after Coach Aliyu Zubairu, the Head Coach of Nigeria’s Flying Eagles and Technical Adviser of Elkanemi Warriors of Maiduguri.
Both football icons have been identified with the league and have also displayed their admiration and support for its idea.
The awards will be presented alongside other notable awards in the final day fixtures of the Pro Route League scheduled for Sunday,January 19th, 2025.
Chief Operating Officer of the League, Ibrahim Zubair noted that the decision to name the awards after the two distinguished personalities was driven by the need to motivate awardees and also inspire them and others in the league to do more in their pursuit for excellence.
For the top scorer award, all eyes will be on La Planet Sport Academia’s prodigy, Muhammed Abdullahi who has scored 11 goals from 10 games and Barrier FA’s Hammed Hammed who also has 10 goals to his credit from 13 matches as their teams square off against FC Zeus and Kwara Football Academy in their last league game respectively.
The best coach award, however, remains open for grab as the organisers continue to weigh the nominees in view of their performance and other criteria.
