Haniel Hadison, Commandant of Customs Training College, praised Adewale Adeniyi for supporting the inaugural wrestling championship in Abuja.
He highlighted that the wrestling competition, sponsored by Customs service, aimed to uncover hidden talents among military and paramilitary personnel.
During the finals of the wrestling competition, new techniques and talents emerged, aligning with the Customs Service’s mission of community giving and corporate social responsibility.
He said that the Comptroller General’s goal in sponsoring the wrestling competition is to uncover and nurture talented individuals who will proudly represent Nigeria in both national and international competitions.
“In fact, the Comptroller General of Customs, in his opening ceremony speech,he did mention that this sponsorship will not end at this edition,” he said.
He said that the Comptroller General of Customs also announced plans to expand sponsorship to various learning institutions such as NUGA competitions.
“ To sponsors, some of the events during university games, polytechnic games, college of education tournaments.
“ So it’s all in line with his desire to give back to the system, to see how he can add value towards the discovery of hidden talents,” Hadison said.
The wrestling championship saw Nigeria Army topped the medals table with nine gold ,four sliver and one bronze to beat with Nigeria Air-force with two gold two silver and five bronze medals.
Nigeria Civil Defence Corps placed third with two gold and three bronze medals while Nigeria police Force with one gold , six silver and four bronze medals placed a close 4th.
Team Customs one bronze medal to finish 5th while Nigeria Navy with three silver and four bronze medals made the top 6 in the medals table.
The Championship was organised by the Nigeria Wrestling Federation ( NWF) in collaboration with the Nigeria Chief of Defense Staff and NCS.
The just concluded inaugural edition of the Comptroller General of Customs, Military and Paramilitary wrestling championship which started from 19th October to 24th November,2024 at the package B indoor hall of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.
