Augustine Eguavoen, Technical Director of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), has successfully completed the FIFA Technical Leadership Diploma, an elite 20-month capacity-building programme for football technical leaders across the world.
Eguavoen was one of only 32 Technical Directors selected from FIFA’s 211 Member Associations to participate in the highly competitive programme, which culminated in a convocation ceremony held recently at the Home of FIFA in Zurich, Switzerland.
Notably, Eguavoen was one of just two participants from the African continent, alongside Namibia’s Technical Director, Jaqueline Shipanga—underscoring the significance of the achievement for Nigerian and African football development.
The FIFA Technical Leadership Diploma is designed to strengthen the strategic, technical and leadership capacities of Technical Directors, equipping them with modern methodologies for football development, high-performance systems, grassroots growth, coach education, and long-term player development.
The programme combined online learning modules, practical assignments, peer collaboration and residential workshops, with a strong emphasis on leadership, innovation and sustainable football ecosystems.
Speaking at the convocation, FIFA officials highlighted the importance of the diploma in shaping the future of global football through well-trained technical leaders capable of driving development at national levels.
Eguavoen’s completion of the programme is expected to further enhance Nigeria’s football technical framework, particularly in areas such as youth development, coaching structures and national football philosophy.
A former Super Eagles captain and head coach, Eguavoen has continued to play a key role in Nigerian football administration since his appointment as NFF Technical Director, overseeing technical planning and development initiatives across various national teams.
His participation and graduation from the FIFA Technical Leadership Diploma places Nigeria among a select group of countries benefiting from FIFA’s highest level of technical leadership education.
