A Board Member of the Nigeria Hockey Federation, Mr. Yohanna Faruk, has described the award received by the federation as a major boost for the development of hockey in Nigeria and across Africa.
Faruk, who spoke on behalf of the President of the Federation, Engr. Simon Nkom, was reacting after receiving the award at the NTA sports 24 Maiden End-of-Year Party and Awards 2025.
According to him, the recognition shows that the efforts of the Nigeria Hockey Federation are being noticed by key stakeholders.
> “This award shows that somebody is paying attention to what the Nigeria Hockey Federation is doing, not only in Nigeria but across Africa. It is encouraging for the president, the federation and all stakeholders in the hockey cycle.”
He also praised the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) for its continued support for hockey development.
> “The NTA has been around hockey, giving us the necessary support whenever we have tournaments and programmes. This recognition means a lot to us.”
Faruk noted that the award serves as motivation for greater commitment going forward.
> “It is a tap on the back, but it also means more work.”
Looking ahead to 2026, he revealed that the federation has lined up several programmes and major competitions.
> “We have important events coming up, including the Nations Cup, ACC competitions and Club Championships. We are working with our technical teams to ensure that all Nigerian teams are well prepared to represent the country and come out with glory.”
He added that grassroots development and the national league will remain top priorities in the coming year.
