Algeria has officially secured its spot in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, becoming the fourth African nation to do so, joining Morocco, Tunisia, and Egypt.
The Algerian national team achieved this milestone after a convincing 3-0 victory over Somalia, with goals from Mohamed Amin Amoura and captain Riyad Mahrez.
This marks Algeria’s fifth appearance in the FIFA World Cup, with their previous participation being in 2014, where they reached the round of 16.
The 2026 World Cup is set to feature 48 teams and will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
With this qualification, nine African teams will participate in the tournament. The final draw for the World Cup is scheduled for December 5 in Washington D.C.
The Algerian team also known as Desert Foxes led by captain Riyad Mahrez and coached by Vladimir Petkovic, has shown impressive performance throughout the qualification stages.
Algeria’s next match is against Uganda on October 14, 2025. With this qualification, the team looks forward to showcasing their skills on the global stage.
This means, four African countries have picked up the nine available tickets and 96 countries are still competing for 28 spots.
