CAF interclub competition: Rivers United FC beat Les Aigles 1-0 (1-0 agg)
History repeated itself as we continued our winning streak at the Godswill Akpabio in CAF interclub competition, booking a date with Associação Black Bulls of Mozambique in the CAF Champions League second preliminary round.
Stephen Manyo reacted fastest to head in the match winner from a well-taken free kick from Ubong Friday after the goalkeeper failed to handle the ball deep into first-half stoppage time. Now, the Pride of Nigeria are only one step away from qualification to the group stage of the competition.
Rivers United will confront Associação Black Bulls of Mozambique in the final preliminary round of the competition, with the first leg scheduled to hold in Mozambique between October 17-19. The second leg will be held in Uyo on October 24.
We are unbeaten in our last five home games in CAF interclub competition (W5). Stephen Manyo is the first Rivers United player to score for the club in this season’s CAF Champions League.
Technical Manager Finidi George is the second manager to qualify Rivers United to the next stage in CAF interclub competition.
