Area 5, Ibeto Seaport And Terminals gets new Comptroller as Abubakar retires.
Port Harcourt – Sept. 25, 2025 The new customs Area 5 Ibeto Seaport And Terminals Port Harcourt, Rivers State Thursday witnessed a change of leadership as its pioneer Area Comptroller, Mrs Martha Abubakar retires from service.
Abubakar also during the occasion handed over mantle of leadership to a new Comptroller, Mr Usman Yayaha.
Industry watchers and stakeholders have described the occasion as fulfilling for Abubakar, the outgoing Comptroller.
Abubakar was said to have recorded commendable achievements in terms of revenue generation and trade facilitation.
During her brief three months tenure, the command generated over N4.2 billion.
In his acceptance speech, Yahaya expressed readiness to leaverage on the existing foundations lead by his predecessor.
He noted that his leadership would anchor on Policy thrust of the Comptroller General, Mr Bashir Adeniyi whose mandate upheld consolidation, collaboration and innovation.
He applauded the Comptroller General Of Customs and his management team for giving him an opportunity to serve.
He also pledged dedication, commitment and a high sense of professionalism.
According to him, Constructive dialogue and interaction was key as his administration contributes to national development.
“I thank God
for this day, and appreciate
our amiable Comptroller General, Adeniyi for finding me worthy of this appointment”
“I wish to also pay glowing tribute to my predecessor, retired Comptroller Martha Abubakar,
whose tenure here has been nothing short of historic,”he said.
The new Comptroller, further reiterated willingness to work closely with critical stakeholders with a view of achieving the objectives of the ‘Renewed Hope Agenda’ by President, Bola Tinubu.
Earlier in her speech, Abubakar expressed gratitude to God for seeing her though three decades of service in good health,
She also felicitated with the Comptroller General and his management team for the confidence reposed in her.
She noted that the confidence also accorded her the privilege to contribute to national development.
She also acknowledged the cooperation, commitments and unwavering support of the Area 5, officers and Men saying the gesture has turned an empty space to a vibrant Area Command.
“Your commitment, Professionalism cooperation and team work made the writing of this historic report possible ” She said.
She however, applauded the management and staff of Ibeto Seaport and Terminals for their support and encouragement while thanking the sister agencies and Customs Licenced agents for their collaboration.
She however, enjoined officers and critical stakeholders to extend their cooperation to Compt Usman Yahaya.
Others who gave their goodwill messages include Representatives of Ibeto group, Sister agencies including NDLEA, SON, Agricultural Quarantine Services, ANLCA NAGAFF among others, who were unanimous in praising the retired Comptroller as well as welcoming the new Area 5 Controller, Comptroller Usman Yahaya.
Highpoint of the event was the presentation of a big plasma Television to the pioneer Area Comptroller of Ibeto Seaport and Terminals, Rtd Comptroller Martha Abubakar.
