As the National Elective Congress of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) draws near, the incumbent President, Amb. Sukubo Sara-Igbe Sukubo, has called on stakeholders in the South-West geopolitical zone to support his re-election bid. The Congress is scheduled to hold from September 19 to 21, 2025.
Addressing stakeholders in Ibadan, Oyo State, Sukubo emphasized the pivotal role of the South-West zone in shaping the future of youth leadership in Nigeria. He pledged to continue championing youth development through digital innovation, empowerment, and inclusive leadership if given a fresh four-year mandate.
“My decision to consult widely with key stakeholders in the South-West zone and solicit their support for my re-election bid was informed by the immense impact of the zone in the future of Nigerian youth,” he stated.
He further highlighted his commitment to inclusive leadership, citing the high representation the South-West has enjoyed in the NYCN National Executive Committee under his tenure. Sukubo expressed appreciation for the zone’s unwavering support, saying he is confident that long-standing relationships with youth leaders in the region will translate into electoral success.
Amb. Sukubo also used the platform to endorse President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in office in 2027. According to him, it is only fair and just that the South retains the presidency for a second term, in line with the precedent set by former President Buhari’s uninterrupted two-term administration.
“Criticisms of President Tinubu are not new in our political culture. Every sitting President faces them. But continuity is vital for progress and consolidation, and we, the youth, must support it,” Sukubo said.
Reaffirming their support, the Chairman of the Forum of State Chairmen of NYCN and Oyo State NYCN Chairman, Comr. Abdulsalam Abdulquadri, declared the South-West zone’s total commitment to Sukubo’s re-election bid. He praised Sukubo’s leadership, describing him as a proven advocate for youth empowerment and national development.
Also speaking, Comr. Olalekan James, a prominent youth leader and convener of the meeting, condemned recent attempts to unlawfully oust the Sukubo-led executive. He emphasized that any leadership change must follow constitutional processes, not “kangaroo” actions.
“The South-West has always been a pacesetter in the NYCN and will continue to play a critical role in shaping its leadership,” he declared, reaffirming the zone’s endorsement of Sukubo.
In his remarks, the Director General of Sukubo’s re-election campaign, Comr. Temple Chinedu Chika, described the NYCN President as a visionary youth leader with an unmatched dedication to national unity, inclusion, and youth advancement.
“Amb. Sukubo is not just a leader; he is a selfless servant of Nigerian youth. History will remember him as one of the most impactful Presidents the NYCN has ever had,” he said.
As the elective congress approaches, Sukubo’s outreach to the South-West zone signals both the strategic importance of the region and his intent to consolidate broad-based support for a second term in office.
