The Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) has announced a postponement of league activities, with the resumption date set for February 18, 2026. This decision, communicated following the conclusion of matchday 7, comes in response to a formal complaint lodged with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
The complaint highlighted the significant unavailability of players from one of the participating clubs, specifically due to the involvement of over five players with the U20 Women’s National team. This absence was impacting the team’s capacity to field a complete and competitive squad.
In an official letter addressed to all clubs, the NWFL’s Chief Operating Officer, Modupe Shabi, confirmed the postponement, emphasizing the league’s unwavering commitment to ensuring fair competition across all matches.
The revised schedule will see league action resume on February 18 with the commencement of matchday 8 fixtures. Originally, the league was slated to observe a mid-season break following week 9. However, this adjustment has resulted in a condensed break, lasting only one week.
Delta Queens FC acknowledges the NWFL’s proactive approach in addressing this matter. We recognize the importance of maintaining the integrity of the league and ensuring that all teams are provided with a level playing field.
@ We understand that this postponement, while creating a slight shift in the schedule, is crucial for upholding the principles of fairness and competitiveness that are fundamental to the NWFL. We are committed to using this period to further enhance our team’s preparations and are looking forward to resuming league play on February 18th.
“ Our focus remains on delivering outstanding performances and contributing to the continued growth and success of women’s football in Nigeria. The club will continue to support the NWFL’s efforts to ensure a smooth and successful continuation of the season.
