Osun Babes FC recorded their first away victory of the season with a hard-fought one-nil win against Confluence Queens, courtesy of a superb long-range strike from defender Naimot Kazeem in the 62nd minute.
The Imole Queens started the encounter on the front foot, asserting early dominance and creating promising goal-scoring opportunities. Forward Sharon Shomuyiwa went close in the first half, but her effort lacked the power to trouble the Confluence Queens goalkeeper.
Osun Babes sustained their attacking pressure as the game wore on, with Bertha Okoro and Tabitha Terlumun both coming close to breaking the deadlock.
Despite enjoying the better of possession and territory, the Osun-based side had to remain patient against a well-organised and resilient home defence.
The breakthrough eventually arrived in the 62nd minute when Naimot Kazeem stepped forward from defence and unleashed a powerful long-range effort that found the back of the net, giving Osun Babes a deserved lead and proving decisive on the day.
Goalkeeper Elizabeth Boniface was also instrumental in the victory, producing a series of crucial saves to keep the Confluence Queens attackers at bay and secure a valuable clean sheet.
Speaking after the match, Technical Advisor Bankole Olowookere praised the character and discipline of his players, describing the result as a reward for their hard work and belief.
“This win means a lot to us as a team,” Olowookere said. “We have been working very hard, and the players showed great character, discipline, and resilience, especially playing away from home. They followed the game plan and stayed focused until the goal came.”
The Osun Babes Technical Advisor also singled out the team’s defensive organisation and mental strength.
“I am particularly proud of the defensive effort and the calmness of the players under pressure. Elizabeth made important saves, and Naimot showed great confidence with her strike. This is the kind of performance that builds belief in the team,” he added.
With the victory, Osun Babes FC move to sixth on the log with seven points from five league matches. The Imole Queens will now shift focus to their next fixture, another away challenge against Nasarawa Amazons, scheduled for next Wednesday.
