NNL: City FC Abuja edged past Doma United FC in Conference C

In a tightly contested match at the ongoing Nigeria National League (NNL) week seven, City FC Abuja edged past Doma United FC 1-0 at the FIFA Goal Project Pitch, Package B, Moshood Abiola Stadium Abuja, on Saturday.

Doma FC currently tops conference C, while City FC sits in sixths  position.

The first half saw both teams trading blows, with solid defensive and attacking plays from both sides, but the score remained goalless at the break.

 

City FC’s Justin Dominic, Sunday Oliseh, and James Isah marshaled a strong midfield, while Prince Friday, Jacob Daniel, and Isek Simon kept the tempo.

 

Akinwande and Franklin Ozor injected fresh energy into the game in the second half, with Adeyemi Mogbademu pressuring the Doma defense.

The breakthrough came in the 57th minute when Shuaib Akinwande scored from a rebound, tapping the ball into the net.

 

Speaking to reporters after the match, City FC captain Justin Dominic praised his team’s intensity and commitment.

“The game was very good, very intensive, but we managed to suppress our opponents. We’ve finished the first half of the league, and we’ll be back stronger in 2026.

I’m grateful we got the win, and I want to tell my players that we can still make it to the top, no matter the pressure or circumstances.” Dominic acknowledged the team’s poor start but expressed optimism for the second half of the season.

 

“ We credit the entire team, technical crew, and our loyal fans for their unwavering support. This win gives us momentum, and we’ll build on it.

“ The team looks forward to a stronger performance in the second stanza of the league.

City FC will face Doma United FC in their Matchday eight match on Jan.31,2026.
