The President of the Dragon Shotokan Karate Club, Sensei Emmanuel Emenike, has called on karatekas from across Nigeria to gear up for a historic test of skill, strength, and spirit at the 1st Dragon Shotokan Karate Club National Open Tournament in Abuja.

The nation’s capital is set to buzz with martial arts energy as preparations heighten for the 1st Dragon Shotokan Karate Club National Open Tournament, scheduled to hold from November 27 to 29, 2025, at the Gymnasium Hall, Package B, Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.

The event, themed “Unleash the Dragon,” is sanctioned by the Karate Federation of Nigeria (KFN) and organized in cooperation with the World Karate Federation (WKF).

It is recognized as a KFN-ranked Factor 6 event, attracting top karatekas from across Nigeria to compete for glory, honor, and national pride.

Emenike, said the competition represents more than just a battle for medals.

“This tournament is more than just a competition; it’s a celebration of unity, discipline, and the spirit of the Dragon.

“We call on every warrior across the nation to rise, compete, and make history,” Emenike said.

Emenike emphasized that the championship will be open to all categories of athletes, regardless of belt rank or experience level.

“All karatekas across Nigeria are invited to step onto the mat. There are no belt restrictions — it’s an open challenge for every fighter ready to test their skills and represent their dojo with pride,” Emenike  added.

Competitors will engage in two key divisions — Kata (forms) and Kumite (sparring).

Each contest is expected to showcase technical precision, mental discipline, and the warrior spirit that defines traditional Shotokan Karate.

Attractive cash prizes and full support for participants

Winners will be rewarded with cash prizes and national recognition: Gold Medal: ₦100,000, Silver Medal: ₦60,000, 1st Bronze Medal: ₦30,000 and 2nd Bronze Medal: ₦30,000.

In addition, all athletes will receive free accommodation, a gesture Emenike said is aimed at fostering focus, comfort, and camaraderie throughout the competition.
