The newly elected President of the Karate Federation of Nigeria (KBFN), Mrs. Fausat Dehinde Yekini, has outlined her key priorities for the federation as she officially assumes office.
Widely known as “lyalaje Worldwide,” Mrs.
Yekini, who also serves as Chairperson of the Kogi State Karate Association, has been instrumental in the growth of karate in Nigeria.
Her commitment and leadership at the state level paved the way for her elevation to the national stage.
A successful businesswoman with ties to the United States, Mrs. Yekini hails from Kogi State in North Central Nigeria. Her passion for martial arts and dedication to sports development have made her a prominent advocate for the advancement of karate in the country.
Speaking after her election, Mrs. Yekini stated that grassroots development will be her administration’s top priority. She emphasized the need to build a strong foundation for young athletes and create a dynamic culture that will position Nigeria as a continental powerhouse in karate.
> “Nigeria has the talent and potential to dominate the sport in Africa. If properly harnessed, our country can become the Mecca of Karate on the continent,” she said.
On the issue of funding, Mrs. Yekini called on the private sector to increase investment in sports, stressing that the government cannot do it alone. She also commended the National Sports Commission (NSC) for conducting a free, fair, and transparent election, describing it as
“flawless” and urging the commission to sustain such standards.
Mrs. Fausat Dehinde Yekini defeated Engr.
Chukwudi Dimkpa from the South-South region by 8 votes to 5 to emerge as President of the Karate Federation of Nigeria. The election took place on Saturday, October 25, 2025, at Package B of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, alongside other federation elections .
