Day 6 of the 2025 Controller General of Customs (CGC) Volleyball Premier League delivered pulsating contests and dramatic results in Abuja, as the first phase of Nigeria’s topflight gathered momentum across both the men’s and women’s categories.
In the men’s division, Sunshine Spikers shone brightly with a commanding 3-1 victory over Kano Pillars, recovering after dropping the first set (21-25) to dominate the next three (25-23, 25-19, 25-16). Nigeria Police had no answers against a ruthless CNS Spikers, who swept them aside in straight sets (25-15, 25-22, 25-19). UCEM and NSCDC treated fans to a nail-biting five-set thriller, with UCEM edging it 3-2 after clawing back twice and sealing the decider 16-14.
Elsewhere, COAS Spikers proved too strong for Nigeria Air Force, recording a 3-0 win (25-23, 25-22, 25-20). Nigeria Customs subdued Offa VC in another gripping five-set duel, taking the decider 15-7 to wrap up a 3-2 triumph. NCoS also registered an emphatic 3-0 victory over Kada Kings (25-16, 25-18, 25-23), rounding off a day that mixed clean sweeps with fierce battles.
The women’s category was equally captivating. Anambra Queens stunned Wikki Spikers 3-1 (25-18, 27-25, 23-25, 25-19), while NSCDC overpowered CNS Spikers in four sets (25-21, 25-22, 26-28, 25-19). COAS Spikers displayed authority with a dominant 3-0 victory over Kada Queens, sealing the sets 26-24, 25-14, 25-9.
Benue Queens enjoyed a fine outing against Olalomi, cruising to a 3-1 win (25-16, 25-19, 12-25, 25-17). LifeCamp, on the other hand, fell 0-3 to NAF Rockets despite a spirited fight in the second set that stretched into extra points (25-18, 30-28, 25-21).
The six-day action underscored the competitiveness of this year’s CGC Volleyball Premier League, with established teams reasserting dominance and ambitious challengers proving they can hold their own. With more fixtures still ahead in the first phase, fans in Abuja can expect even fiercer battles on the court.
