The Nigeria National League (NNL) has signed a landmark one-year sponsorship deal worth ₦494,456,709 with sports betting company BetPawa in Abuja.
The partnership aims to transform the nation’s second-tier football league by introducing a “Locker Room Bonus” scheme, direct support to clubs, and enhanced branding and marketing efforts .
Highlighting of the Partnership Locker Room Bonus Scheme , Each match-winning side will receive ₦56,000 directly into their mobile wallets within minutes of the final whistle.
With 20 registered players and three technical staff members sharing a ₦1.288 million bonus per win.
The NNL will earn ₦400,000 for every match played each weekend, providing a dual boost for both players and the league.
The partnership is expected to boost the economy, improve players’ lives, and create competition, ultimately growing the sport .
Stakeholder reactions, NFF President Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau said it’s welcomed the initiative, stressing its potential to retain talent in the domestic league and reduce the number of footballers migrating abroad.
He emphasized the NFF’s commitment to professionalizing the league, ensuring transparency and accountability to attract more sponsors.
Philip Shaibu, Director-General of the National Institute for Sports believes the partnership will uplift and motivate players, echoing sentiments shared by the NFF president and other stakeholders.
He commended BetPawa’s partnership, highlighting its potential to boost the economy and improve players’ lives.
NNL Chairman George Aluo on his part said the partnership is expected to strengthen the league, restore sports to its rightful position in Nigeria and Africa, and contribute to the growth of football development.
BetPawa reiterated its commitment to driving positive change in African sports through innovative sponsorship models and CSR projects.
The company aims to professionalize sports across the continent, building on its successful partnerships in other African markets .
