KFSD and GIZ Empower Young Nigerians through STEM Construction Summer Camp

The Kaiser Foundation for Social Development (KFSD) and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH have successfully concluded the 2025 STEM Construction Summer Camp (SCSC) in Jos and Abuja.

This initiative, launched in 2016, aims to spark students’ interest in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) while exposing them to real-world applications in the construction industry.

The first and Dec phase of this year’s camp was hosted at the Government Science and Technical College, Bukuru, Jos with 60 students participation.

While the third phase took place saw 35 students participation at the Government Science and Technical College, Garki, Abuja, with participation from students of Government Science and Technical College, Orozo.

The camp featured hands-on construction activities, career talks, mentorship, and interactive learning sessions, equipping participants with teamwork, problem-solving, and technical skills.

Students also had the rare opportunity to learn directly from industry professionals, bridging the gap between classroom knowledge and practical industry experience.

The program received strong support from private sector partners, including

Construction Kaiser Limited, M&E Kaiser Limited, Lafarge Africa PLC,Delano Architects, PERI, ConsolAssociates, Arup.

Others are , CA Consultants, Electric Motor Vehicle Company (EMVC), SABC Ltd, Gwale Global Resources Ltd, and Urban Shelter Limited.

Their contributions highlight the critical role of industry in promoting sustainable vocational development.

This year’s programme was powered by KFSD’s continued collaboration with GIZ, a global leader in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).

The partnership reflects a joint commitment to strengthening TVET education in Nigeria and ensuring young people are better prepared for future workforce demands.

The success of the 2025 SCSC reaffirms the power of public-private collaboration in advancing STEM and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) education.

Speaking on the initiative, Engr. Igbuan Okaisabor, Founder of KFSD, said:

“At KFSD, we believe the future of Nigeria’s construction industry depends on how well we prepare the next generation today.

“ Through the STEM Construction Summer Camp, we expose students to possibilities within STEM while equipping them with skills and knowledge that will shape their future careers.

Architect Emmanuel of Delano Architects ,emphasized the importance of investing in TVET, noting that practical skill development is key to unlocking opportunities for young Nigerians in the evolving construction and engineering sectors.
