The Groovy December Committee has called for a strong partnership between government and cooperate organisations to boost Nigeria`s tourism sector.
Imoh Ebang, Chairman of the committee, who made the call at a news conference on Monday in Abuja, said that the partnership aims to tap into the tourism sector’s vast potential.
Ebang said that Nigeria could capture a significant share of the revenue by developing its tourism industry, adding that the sector is projected to generate over $11.7 trillion globally.
“This collaboration can empower local businesses, foster economic growth, and showcase Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage.
“By developing Nigeria’s tourism sector, the country can create employment opportunities, and tourism can contribute significantly to Nigeria’s economy.
“It will help to reduce dependence on oil and taxes, and foster cross-cultural understanding and exchange, promoting Nigerian culture and heritage.
“Tourism can also foster cross-cultural understanding and exchange, providing alternative livelihoods, reducing crime, promoting social stability, promoting Nigerian culture and heritage,” he said.
Ebang described the Abuja Groovy December festival, scheduled for Dec. 15 to 31, an initiative of the committee as a national project aimed at promoting Nigeria’s tourism sector.
“The committee is inviting participants from all states to join in ensuring that the benefits are felt across the country.
“ By working together, Nigeria can unlock the economic potential of tourism and create opportunities for its citizens,” he said.
Ebang urged corporate Nigeria to partner with the committee to drive economic growth and create opportunities for Nigerians.
“With the right approach, tourism can become a significant contributor to Nigeria’s economy and a source of pride for its people,” he said.
He said that the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja would host over 70 per cent of the festival.
The festival, according to him, consists of different competitions where states and individuals will contest, and the winners of various competitions will receive exciting rewards.
He said that the festival would feature jazz festival, afrobeats concerts with top artistes, cultural displays, water events like kayaking, special food and cooking events.
He listed others to include car racing, fashion, football, Chess, Snooker competitions, Fairs-emerging Abuja Market place and several competitions.
“The Abuja Groovy December festival aims to position Abuja as a tourism hub by leveraging key enablers such as showcasing the city’s rich heritage and traditions, entertainment.
“The festival, powered by the Emerging Abuja Programme of KHL, will debut in 2025 with over 35 events, attracting visitors to the nation’s capital throughout the December period,” he said.
Ebang said that the vision was to make Abuja a premier tourism destination, showcasing its unique experiences and attractions.
He said that the festival targeted a diverse audience, including Nigerians from all states, including families, young professionals, corporates, culture enthusiasts, foodies, and adventure seekers.
“
Nigerians and Africans living abroad in Europe, North America, and other regions who return home for holidays or seek authentic African experiences will also be part of the festival.
“Others are West African neighbours from countries like Ghana, Senegal, Benin, and others who may be interested in exploring Nigeria’s culture and entertainment.
“By targeting these groups, the festival aims to attract a broad and diverse audience, promoting cultural exchange, entertainment, and tourism in Abuja,” he said.
He extended the committee’s invitation to key stakeholders, including MDAs of Federal and State Governments, Local government Areas, and elected and appointed officials.
Abang urged all indigenous people and residents of Abuja to partner with the committee to promote the festival, providing platforms for SMEs and creative talents to develop and create wealth for themselves.
“ By working together, we can make Abuja Groovy December a success and create a positive impact on the city’s economy, environment, and community,” he said.
He thanked the initiative brand Ambassador, Coach Samson Siasia, and the Chief Executive Officer of Kenneth housing and style, Kenneth Ibe-Kalu.
