The Nationwide League One (NLO) is making significant strides in its community outreach initiative, aimed at promoting grassroots football development and identifying young talents.
Barrister Babatunde Nelson, a board member of the NLO and the FCT FA, expressed optimism that the league’s objective of bringing the game to the community will be achieved.
“ The NLO’s community outreach initiative is designed to take football to the suburbs, providing young players with opportunities to develop their skills and showcase their talents.

“ By hosting matches in different locations, the league aims to promote grassroots football development and identify young players who may not have had access to such opportunities otherwise.
Also,provide opportunities for young players to participate in organized football,” he said.
He said am thrilled with the first match of the Under-19 Youth League, but not surprised given the NLO’s rapid growth under the Nigeria Football Federation.
“ Our CEO, Shola Ogunowo, has worked tirelessly to make this a success.
“ By bringing the game to the community, we are achieving our goal of identifying and nurturing young talents in the suburbs.
“ This isn’t just about entertainment; it’s about developing grassroots football and giving young players a chance to shine.
“ The main reason is not only to entertained the people who can make it down to Area 3 football pitch but also to ensure that we move the game closer to the grassroots in the suburbs areas ,” he said.
Nelson emphasized that the NLO’s focus on young players is crucial to the league’s success.
“ By identifying and nurturing young talents,NLO’s mission is to “catch them young” and provide opportunities for young players to develop their skills and gain exposure.

He added that NLO’s future plans include hosting playoff matches in suburbs like Gwagwalada, Abaji, and Kwali.
“ This move is expected to further promote grassroots football development and provide opportunities for young players to participate in high-level competitions.
“ With its mission to bring football closer to the people, the NLO is poised to make a significant impact on Nigerian football,” he said.
