Barau FC has officially secured a remarkable promotion to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) for the first time in their history, following a dominant 2-0 victory over Doma United in the NNL Super 8 playoffs held in Asaba.
Fagge born – Midfield maestro Usman Maidubji opened the scoring, setting the tone for the crucial win.
The highly-rated player, currently on loan from Kano Pillars, became the first to score for Barau FC in the tournament after three tough group matches.
Maidubji, a former Plateau United and Kano Pillars star, joined Barau FC when the team was struggling in the relegation zone. Since then, he has played a pivotal role in their resurgence.
Known for his tactical versatility, he has operated as a defensive, central, and attacking midfielder, and has even filled in at full-back when needed all to help the club secure their historic NPFL slot.
Mohammed Shammasu, fresh off winning the NNL Goal of the Month award, sealed the win with a brilliant second goal to ensure Barau FC’s promotion dream became reality.
The Kano-based club’s promotion marks a new chapter in their football journey one powered by talent, resilience, and key players like Maidubji.
