Kicker FC and Alpha FC settled for a 2-2 in their opening match Group A of the 2025 FCT FA league division two at the Area 3 football pitch on Tuesday in Abuja.
Kingsley Boniface scored the penalty awarded in the 15th minute to give Alpha FC the lead.
However,Kicker FC equalised in the 21st minute, through Charles Oparaji well placed shot.
Boniface of Alpha FC scored his brace in the 31st minute after receiving a pass from Victor Nwanfor to add to the tally 2-1.
On resumption of the second half, both team showed determination, tightening their defence.
In the 89th minute, Abayomi Ajao’s brilliant free kick found Mohammed Usman, who then scored with a shot, securing Kicker FC’s second goal to end the game 2-2.
Speaking after the match, Kicker FC’s Sporting Director, Dare Adesomo, expressed satisfaction with the team’s performance against Alpha FC.
“ The game is not too bad, the boys are coming up gradually.
“ Both teams gave a good account of themselves, adding that it was their first encounter with Alpha FC in this type of competition and our first appearance too.
“ I believe my team will win their subsequent matches ,” he said.
Captain of Alpha FC, Gideon Phillip, described their match as “fantastic” despite the rainfall.
“ I also credited the team adaptability to the conditions and gave God the glory for their performance.
“Playing in the rain wasn’t new to us, but this match presented a different challenge.
“ We were eliminated in the group stage in 2024 and our aims is to advance further this time around, with hopes of winning subsequent matches,” he said.
Kicker FC, are group A alongside Alpha FC , Fine Trust FC , Nile University FC ,ACE football club and Chikason FC .
Kicker FC will face Nile university FC by 11am on Thursday at old parade ground football pitch Area 10 . While Alpha FC will hook up with A C E. by 9am at the same venue.
In another match, Nile University FC beat Fine Trust FC 2-1 .while ACE Football club beat Chikason FC 1-0.
