Major General Hillary Mabeokwu ,patron of Defence Spikers men’s volleyball club, has reaffirmed commitment to advancing, supporting the club after they excelled in the just concluded Minister of FCT volleyball Challenge 2025.

Mabeokwu, in Abuja said this will further boost the team’s morale and expressed joy in the team’s achievement, highlighting their consistency and dedication.

“I am thrilled that Defence Spikers’ men and women teams both secured third place in the competition,which featured over 50 teams showcasing their prowess on the court.

“ Our consistency in the championship is a testament to the team’s dedication and hard work, and I am incredibly proud of their achievement,” he said.

According to him, this impressive performance marks a significant milestone for Defence Spikers volleyball men’s club, which transitioned from a recreational team to a professional one in 2024.

“ The team’s dominance in the Division Two league earned them promotion to Division One, and their current success is a testament to their growth and progress.

“ The team’s achievement is a reflection of their hard work and commitment to excellence and pride in their accomplishment is well-deserved,” he said.

He said the success in the just concluded Minister of FCT Volleyball Challenge 2025 is sure to inspire other teams and cement their position as a force to be reckoned with in the volleyball in Nigeria.

He also acknowledged James Pindar,who is the chairman of the FCT volleyball caretaker committee for his dedication and passion to have elevated the event’s standard, and I encourage him to maintain this level of excellence,” he said.

 

Defence Spikers men’s volleyball team secured third place by defeating Legend Spikers 3-0 (25-19, 25-23, 25-20), while the women’s team also claimed third position with a 3-1 win (25-16, 19-25, 28-26, 25-18) over the same opponent.

33 clubs comprising 32 men and 21 women FCT teams participated.

In the final men’s category, the Super Spikers volleyball club emerged winners in the men’s team, while Karu United volleyball club came second, and the Defence Spikers volleyball team finished third.
