Nigeria shines at Africa juniors swimming championships, with four medals

The Nigeria Junior Swim Team ended their Campaign at the Africa swimming junior Championships on a high securing Three Golds and a bronze at the championship.

Abduljabal Adama racked up all the medals for Nigeria in the championship. He broke the championship record twice on his way to gold Medal in the 50 Meters Butterfly with a Time of 24.19 seconds in the heats and 23.89 in the finals.

Adama also broke the Africa record in the 50 Meters freestyle at the championship with a time of 22.24 seconds beating the previous record of 22.65 seconds
Another swimmer Kashope Obatoyinbo who also qualified was in the final even though he didn’t medal he came 6th surpassing his personal best time to put up 23:92.

Adama clinched his final Gold in 100 meters Freestyle with a time of 26.64 to make it 3 for Nigeria at the 16th Africa Junior swimming championships in Egypt.
Even though he didn’t break the existing record in 100M Freestyle or meet his personal best his efforts was good enough to earn Nigeria the Gold.

He also won the Bronze medal in the 100 Meters butterfly in Egypt.

He was named the best male swimmer of the tournament, becoming the only swimmer from a black African country to make the Podium at the tournament.

Speaking after the championship President of the Aquatic Federation of Nigeria Chinonye Daphey Aliyu praised the resilience and Tenacity of the athletes “We are so proud about those achievement at this event, this is the best that have happened to swimming in 33 years surpassing the Bronze at the Africa games”

She thanked the leadership of the National Sports Commission for the support and assistance to make this happen

She concluded by reiterating the Federation commitment to improving the quality of Swimming in Nigeria and promised to improve on this performance at the world Junior event coming up in August in Romania and Africa Youth games in December in Angola.
