National Junior Swimming Championship – “SWIM FOR LIFE” Set to inspire Young Athletes in nigeria

The Nigeria Aquatics Federation (NAqF), with support from the National Sport Commission, is proud to announce the National Junior Swimming Championships, themed “Swim For Life”, scheduled to take place from April 22nd to 25th, 2025, at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Package B Swimming Complex, Abuja.

This landmark event is dedicated to nurturing the next generation of swimmers in Nigeria, and will welcome participants aged 8 to 14 years from across States, Clubs, and Academies.

From April 23rd to April 25th, for three days, young athletes will showcase their talent and passion in a World Aquatics certified 50 meters long course facility in Abuja participating in a range of swimming disciplines including freestyle, breaststroke, backstroke, butterfly, individual medley, and relays.

Speaking ahead of the event, Chief Mrs. Chinonye Daphey Aliyu, President of  Nigeria Aquatics Federation, expressed her enthusiasm and vision for the championship.

“This championship is more than just a sporting event—it’s a movement aimed at promoting water safety, encouraging early participation in swimming, a selection into the national junior team as well as building a culture of excellence in aquatics sports.

We believe every child should learn to swim, not only for competition but as a life skill. ‘Swim For Life’ embodies that mission.”

The event will commence with team arrivals and accreditation on April 22nd, followed by an Opening Ceremony on April 23rd, and will climax  in a Closing Ceremony with medal presentations and awards on April 25th.

Notably, all registered participants will receive complimentary accommodation at the athletes hostel and meals provided by The Federation.

This championship have enjoyed mass participation from states, clubs, schools and swim academy both in Nigeria and abroad to cater for Nigeria in diaspora who desires a place in the national junior team.

The Nigeria Aquatics Federation invites all stakeholders, families, coaches, and sports enthusiasts to attend and support this epoch event.

The championship also provides a platform for talent discovery, selection into the junior national team ahead the World Aquatics junior World Cup in Romania later this year, it is also aim at promoting grassroots development,

The federation is calling for the Collaboration of all stakeholders to make this a success and support swimming development in Nigeria.
