Philip Shaibu, the former Deputy Governor of Edo State and current chairman of Bendel Insurance FC, paid a visit to Abuja on Thursday, where he congratulated the National Sports Commission chairman, Shehu Dikko, and the newly re-appointed Secretary General of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Mohammed Sanusi.
Shaibu emphasized the importance of experienced leaders in Nigerian sports, particularly during a time of reform.
He believes that with passionate and experienced individuals at the helm, sports can drive significant economic growth and development in the country.
As a sports enthusiast, is committed to supporting the sector, which he considers the “next oil well” for Nigeria.
With a large youth population and abundant talent, I am convinced that sports can create jobs, reduce unemployment, and contribute significantly to the country’s GDP.
In fact, Shaibu cited statistics showing that sports contributed 3.8% to Nigeria’s GDP in the fourth quarter of last year.
He is optimistic that with the right support and investment, sports can reach 6% of the country’s GDP.
My visit was a show of solidarity and support for the new leadership in Nigerian sports, and he urged all sports enthusiasts to give back to the sector and support the system.
