The highly anticipated “Swim to Future” kiddies championship is set to make a splash on Friday, February 28 in Abuja, marking the beginning of a two-day exciting event that will showcase the talents of young Nigerian swimmers.

The championship, organized by the Nigeria Aquatics Federation, aims to discover and nurture swimming talents among primary and secondary school children aged 6-14 in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Chinoye Aliyu, President of the Nigeria Aquatics Federation, on Wednesday told pressmen during a press briefing held in Abuja  that the event promises to be an action-packed and fun experience for the participating children, with a focus on promoting swimming as a sport and encouraging young Nigerians to take up the sport.

With over 78 registered kiddies expected to participate, the championship is expected to be a thrilling competition that will identify and develop the next generation of Nigerian swimming champions.

The “Swim to Future” kiddies championship will come to a close on Saturday, March 1, with the federation hoping to make it an annual event that will continue to promote swimming development in Nigeria.

Aliyu stated that the program is part of the federation’s broader strategy to develop swimming in Nigeria, with plans to expand the initiative to other zones across the country.

“We recognize the boundless potential of our young swimmers, and with the right training, mentorship, and opportunities, they can rise to compete at the highest levels, representing Nigeria with pride on international stages.”

Yisa Lawal from Ojez Entertainment Limited, the sponsor of the event, emphasized the importance of investing in the next generation of swimming champions.

“We decided to partner with the Aquatic Federation to catch them young, nurture, and build them for future international events.”

On his part,Jiddah Dakwal , board member representing north central and also the Vice Chairman of the Nigeria Aquatics Federation revealed that a total of 78 registered kiddies are expected to participate in the event, with the federation targeting over 100 athletes for the maiden edition.

 


The championship promises to be a fun and safe experience for the participating children, with well-trained coaches and lifeguards certified to ensure their safety.

The “Swim to Future” kiddies championship is set to become a premier platform for young Nigerian swimmers to develop their skills and pursue their dreams.

Aliyu emphasized, “We want to have a passion in them, and this is the right time to start. Swim with passion, train with determination, and embrace this opportunity with both hands.”
