Joseph Jimoh defeated Ezekiel Azi ,6-1, 6-1 to reach the semi-finals at the ongoing ITF World Tennis Tour, Junior J30 Abuja in the male singles category on Thursday in Abuja.
The Junior International Tennis Federation (ITF) event is a flagship tournament to help junior players gain global rankings.
The tour which started on February 17th, is expected to end on Saturday , February 22nd at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium,Abuja.
In previous matches played so far,jimoh defeated Jayden Park of Hong Kong 6-0, 6-2 in the round of 32, and then beat Mohammed Elsheikh of Egypt 6-1, 6-0 to advance to round of 16 .
While Azi, seeded number eight, also had a strong run, beating Usman Shuaibu 6-1, 6-0 in the round of 32, and then overcoming Metrailer Morel of France 6-3, 7-5 in the round of 16.
Jimoh, who is seeded number one in the tournament wasted no time over seeded number eight , Azi, winning 6-1, 6-1 .
Jimoh’s dominance was evident throughout the match, as he effortlessly took control of the court.
The convincing win showcases Jimoh’s impressive skills.
Jimoh’s impressive run in the tournament has earned him a spot in the last four, where he will face the winner between Lucky Danjuma or Mehdi Cherkaoui of Morocco on Friday.
“ I have been playing really well this week, and my matches have been easy.
“ I am thrilled to have made it to the semi finals in the singles and the finals in the doubles category,” jimoh said.
However, I am confident in my abilities, and am going to give it my all in the remaining match on Saturday .
Lucky Danjuma and Mubarak Ganiyu will face off against Christopher Abou and Joseph Jimoh on Friday in double category.
While in the female , Etoro Bassey and Blessing Otu will face off against Goodness Aina and Success Ogunjobi on Friday.
11 countries, Nigeria (host) , Great Britain, France,USA, Canada, Hong Kong, Egypt, China, Morocco, Lebanon, India,are participating in the ongoing championship.
The two-week-long tournament is divided into two phases, with the first phase taking place from February 17th to February 22nd and the second phase from February 24th to March 2nd 2025.
