Sokoto State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Dr. Engr. Mustapha Muhammad Kofar Marke, made a surprise visit to Sokoto United FC’s training ground on Thursday to assess the team’s condition and selection process.
During his visit, Engr. Kofar Marke emphasized the importance of firsthand observation, saying he doesn’t rely on secondhand reports.
The Commissioner expressed concern over the lack of management presence in the selection process, noting that most management members are not actively involved or present on the field.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to Sokoto United FC’s progress, emphasizing the goal of securing promotion to the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) through collective effort.
He also highlighted the challenges faced by the club, including the loss of several players mid-season.
He stressed the need to fill these gaps quickly, carefully selecting the best players from both invited and homegrown talents.
As part of the club’s long-term vision, the Commissioner announced plans to establish a feeder team to develop grassroots talents.
We are working on creating a feeder team to nurture young players .Those who prove their potential will have a pathway into the main squad and assured players who don’t make the final selection to remain patient, as opportunities will arise in the feeder team.
In his concluding remarks, called on all stakeholders to put aside personal interests and work together to achieve the target of elevating Sokoto United FC to the NPFL through unity, dedication, and teamwork.
As part of the long-term vision of the clubs president Prof Mustapha Aliyu , the Commissioner announced plans to establish a feeder team aimed at developing grassroots talents.
