In a shocking turn of events, Nigerian boxer Omole Dolapo has been disqualified from the African Games due to an anti-doping rule violation.
The African Union Commission Result Management made this decision after analyzing urine samples collected from Dolapo on March 14 and March 20, 2024, which tested positive for Furosemide.
In a statement signed by Ms Lina Kessy ,Officier in charge , Africa Union Sports Council on December 5,2024.
As a result, Dolapo’s individual results, including his gold medal, have been disqualified.
He will also have to return his medal, title, points, prizes, and wins obtained during the 13th African Games Accra 2023.
This decision was made in accordance with Articles 2.1 and 2.2 of the AUC Anti-Doping Rules.
The Nigerian Chef de Mission for the 13th African Games Accra 2023 was notified of this decision, and the Africa Union Sports Council is expected to be informed of the action taken by December 15, 2024.
This ruling serves as a reminder of the importance of fair play and adherence to anti-doping regulations in sports.
