Sokoto United FC kicked off their 2024/2025 NNL campaign with a resounding 2-0 victory over Jigawa Golden Star FC at the Giginya Memorial Stadium, Sokoto.

The Caliphate Boys dominated possession from the outset, creating numerous scoring opportunities throughout the encounter.

Yahaya Malamcy broke the deadlock in the 39th minute, courtesy of an assist from James Igboyi. Christopher Ododo doubled the lead just four minutes later, scoring in the 43rd minute.

The match was marked by intense rivalry and determination, with Sokoto United FC showcasing their prowess on the pitch. The team’s defensive line, marshaled by Gambo Bala and Bitrus Philimon at center back, Abba at left back, and Ishaku Jibrin at right back, was solid and denied Jigawa Golden Star FC any clear chances.

The midfield trio of Godstime Oshoke, Christopher Ododo, and Umar Laduwa worked tirelessly to control the tempo of the game, while the forward line of Atiku Andrew, Yahaya Malamcy, and James Igboyi posed a constant threat to the Jigawa Golden Star FC defense.

Ishaku Jibrin’s impressive performance earned him the Man of the Match award, having provided an assist for the second goal.

 

Technical Adviser Peter Ajeni attributed the victory to hard work and prayers. “We are delighted with the win, and it’s a testament to the team’s hard work and dedication. We also thank God for the victory,” Ajeni said.
