In an extraordinary showcase of talent and determination, Fountain University, Osogbo swept all the gold medals in the badminton events at the Osun Intercollegiate Games 2024 on Saturday.
The thrilling matches were held at the Federal Polytechnic Ede Indoor Sports Complex, a venue that witnessed intense competition, spectacular rallies, and unforgettable moments.
The badminton competition brought together some of the finest athletes from institutions across the state, all vying for supremacy.
However, it was Fountain University’s players who stole the show, making an emphatic statement of dominance and skill.
In the Men’s Singles, Hammed Ibrahim of Fountain University demonstrated why he is regarded as one of the brightest stars in intercollegiate badminton.
With exceptional footwork, precise smashes, and mental resilience, he clinched the gold medal, defeating Abubakar Ibrahim from the University of Ilesa in an intense final. Victory Omoyele from the Federal University of Health Sciences, Ila Orangun, secured the bronze medal.
The Women’s Singles event saw another Fountain University star, Sultanat Balogun, rise to the occasion. Her agility and strategic gameplay proved too much for her opponents.
She claimed the gold, while Feyikemi Odunlade of UNILESA earned silver, and Chioma Okoronkwo from the Federal University of Health Sciences, Ila Orangun, took home the bronze.
Fountain University also reigned supreme in the Doubles Categories. The Men’s Doubles pair of Ifeoluwa Jones and Hammed Mohammed showcased remarkable chemistry and teamwork, dominating their matches to win gold.
Similarly, in the Women’s Doubles, Haleemah Uthman and Sultanat Balogun delivered a flawless performance, adding another gold medal to Fountain University’s tally.
