AMGA 2024:Algeria edged out  Nigeria in a nail biting 3-1 thriller

The Algeria Armed Forces volleyball men’s  teams on Sunday defeated the Nigeria team 3-1 to record their first win at the ongoing African Military Games (AMGA) 2024 in Abuja.

The match played at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium,Algeria beat Nigeria 3-1 (26-24,25-19,22-25, 25-22) in their opening match played at the ongoing African Military Games (AMGA) 2024 in Abuja.
The AMGA 2024 which started on wednesday is expected to end on November 30th, 2024 at the Moshood Abiola  National Stadium in Abuja.
In the indoor hall match played,Algeria won the first set 26-24 and continued their dominance in the second  set with 25-19 points.
The third set was even more entertaining to watch as Nigeria opened a three -point advantage.
The Algeria  rallied to win the last set 25–22 after a brave effort having adjusted their playing tactics.

Speaking after the match, Algerian Army Forces volleyball team coach, Djehiche Abdelhakim, expressed satisfaction with his team’s performance, stating that they were well-prepared for the event.

“ Our ultimate goal is to secure the gold medal but unfortunately is a round robin competition.

“ We hope to be at the top on the table standing and emerge as the best team in the volleyball event,” he said.

Abdelhakim revealed that the team will conduct a video analysis of Ghana’s playing style in other to gain a strategic advantage before their encounter on Monday evening  for their second game .

In other matches,  Kenya staged a stunning recovery against Ghana, winning 3-2(15-25, 20-25, 25-21, 25-22, 15-11) and Burkina Faso beat Sierra Leone with a 3-0 victory (25-15, 25-15, 25-21) in less than an hour.

Nigeria will take on Sierra Leone on Monday ,followed by a crucial match between Algeria and Ghana and lastly Burkina Faso will face Kenya.

A total of six countries are participating  in the men’s volleyball  ongoing tournament at the 2024 African Military Games (AMGA), which kicks off on (today)Sunday .
