The Nigeria Rugby Football Federation (NRFF) has unveiled a 43-man provisional squad for the 2024 Africa Cup XVs (Repechage) tournament, scheduled to take place in Tunisia from December 16 to 23, 2024.
The squad comprises 14 foreign-based players and 29 locally-based players, providing opportunities for homegrown talent to shine. Notably, Onoru-Oyiza Jatto, a center with Cowrie RFC, returns to the team after missing the last sevens tournament.
The forwards include Oghenetejiri Ajuchi (Prop, Barnes RFC), Ford Oladele Ayodele (Prop, Richmond RFC), Taiwo Olagunju (Prop, Dallas Men’s Rugby), Nelson Eselkhomen (Prop, Edo State Rugby),
others are Liberty Enowa (Backrow, Delta State Rugby), Quadri Kolawole (Prop, Cowrie RFC), Ibrahim Suraj (Hooker, Barewa RFC), Otum Julius (Hooker, Barewa RFC), Babajide Adekunle Ayomide (Lock, Southend Saxons RFC), Arinze Okemuo (Lock, RUMS RFC), and Frederick Henry-Ajudua (ATL OLD White RFC).
The backs feature Alex Onyeahasi (Flyhalf, Clifton RFC), Isa Omale (Scrumhalf, Barewa RFC), Jonathan Ilori (Center, Esher RFC), Isaiah Akpovwa (Wing/Fullback, Blackheath RFC), Gabriel Etim (Flyhalf/Fullback, Barewa RFC).
others are Monday Omorogieva (Fullback/Scrumhalf, Racing RFC), Onoru-Oyiza Jatto (Center, Cowrie RFC), Aliu Auwal (Wing/Fullback, Edo State Rugby), and Samuel Akpabio (Winger, Barewa RFC).
The squad will convene for training camp in Abuja on December 10, 2023, before departing for Tunisia on December 15, 2023. The 2024 Africa Cup XVs (Repechage) tournament promises intense competition, showcasing Nigerian rugby talent.
