NAWIS Delegation Pays Courtesy Visit to NSC Chairman Shehu Dikko

The Nigeria Association of Women in Sports (NAWIS) delegation, led by Prof. Mariam Suleiman, paid a courtesy visit to Mallam Shehu Dikko, Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), in Abuja on Friday.

NAWIS is a non-governmental organization, established to stimulate participation and advancement of girls, and women in sports in Nigeria.

This visit reflects NAWIS trust in the NSC’s new direction, aiming to welcome athletes contributions and foster lasting changes .

The NAWIS president put forward ten recommendations for change to the National Sports Commission .

According to her, the key recommendations to the National Sports Commission  include: appoint qualified women to sports leadership positions,Periodically train and retrain women coaches and technical personnel.

“ Others are prioritize female athletes welfare,( both active and retired) including funding and general support, Involve women in marketing and sponsorship drives.

 “ And ensure qualified female technical officials handle female matters, and provide chaperones for female teams,” she said.

These recommendations aim to promote women’s participation and advancement in Nigerian sports, recognizing their significant contributions to the country’s medal wins.

Prof. Suleiman  also emphasized that Nigerian female athletes have consistently won medals and laurels, making them crucial to achieving success in grassroots and elite sports.

She stressed the importance of treating female athletes with utmost care.

Suleiman said the organisation ready to  offered its support and resources to the NSC, expressing readiness to collaborate and contribute positively to sports development in Nigeria.
