This morning, Tolulope Oguntimehin received an encouraging message from Mohammed Saliu of the NFF’s media department, reporting that the home-based Super Eagles just concluded another week of training.

Players will now return to their respective clubs for the weekend’s Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) matches, only to regroup next week in preparation for the crucial 2025 African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifiers against Ghana in December.

This news genuinely lifted my spirits. Despite financial hurdles, the NFF has managed to camp the team consistently, a commitment that has been lacking in Nigerian football for years.

This extended time together will help our players develop better chemistry, which could make all the difference in our performance against Ghana, potentially securing our place in the CHAN tournament after the setbacks of recent years.

Love him or hate him, Gusau seems determined to address the deep-seated structural issues within Nigerian football. Progress may be slow, but it’s impossible to fix years of mismanagement in a single term.

Gusau’s approach is clear: he’s working to ensure that the issues of past administrations don’t hinder the current board from achieving its goals.

Appointments like Aliyu Zubaira have been well-received by journalists and stakeholders alike, and the inclusion of homegrown players on the Super Falcons roster under interim coach supervision signals renewed hope for local talent.

Even concerns over delayed allowances, bonuses, and salaries are gradually fading into history.

In every sense, Gusau is indeed reengineering Nigerian football, with each step moving us closer to a stronger, more structured future.
