Nigeria’s Under 17 women’s team, the Flamingos, bowed out of the 2024 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup after a 2-0 quarterfinal defeat to the United States on Saturday at  CTC Stadium, Santiago De Los Caballeros, Dominican Republic.

Despite being the highest-scoring team in the group stage, the Flamingos failed to find the back of the net against the Americans.

The Coach Bankole Olowookere has reacted to the team failure to fly past the USA in the quarter final .

He praised his team’s effort, saying, “I’m proud of the girls; they have  given it their best. They are young girls  developing in the game.”

He acknowledged that their best wasn’t enough but vowed to improve for the next tournament.

The match, played at the CTC Stadium in the Dominican Republic, saw the USA dominate possession. Kennedy Fuller’s penalty and Kimmi Ascanio’s strike secured the Americans’ first semifinal berth in 16 years.

The Flamingos’ best chance came in the second half when Taiwo Afolabi’s shot was saved by Evan Osteen.

The USA will face Korea DPR in the semifinals, while Nigeria’s search for its first-ever FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup trophy continues.

Nigeria returns home, focusing on future improvements.
