Chief of Defence Staff Commends Nigeria Wrestling Federation, Urges Support for Military Games

General Christopher Musa, the Chief of Defence Staff, has praised the Nigeria Wrestling Federation (NWF) for its successful wrestling championship in Abuja.

 He encouraged military and paramilitary organizations to engage in sports, promoting a healthy and competitive environment.
The recently concluded maiden edition of the Comptroller General of Customs Military and Paramilitary wrestling championship ,tagged ‘National Wrestling Championship ABUJA 2024’.

 

In the wrestling championship, Team Nigeria Army emerged as the overall winner, topping the medals table with nine gold, four silver, and one bronze medal.
 They were followed by the Nigeria Air Force, with two gold, two silver, and five bronze medals, and the Nigeria Civil Defence Corps, which placed third with two gold and three bronze medals.
The Championships  was organized by the NWF  in collaboration with the Nigeria Chief of Defense Staff and Nigeria Customs Service ( NCS) .

Musa, praised the Comptroller General  of Customs,Adeniyi Bashiru for the successful organization of the wrestling championship, citing the professionalism displayed during the event.

 

“ We are looking forward to next year, more events so that we can expose our athletes.

“ It is important that we do this so that we can continue to  win medals for  Nigeria,” he said.

 

The Comptroller has demonstrated exceptional leadership and commitment to promoting talent development through sports.

 His sponsorship of this inaugural wrestling competition is a testament to this commitment.

He emphasized the potential for further improvements through partnerships with sports federations, underscoring the importance of engaging Nigeria’s youth in sports to reduce crime and foster non-kinetic solutions to societal challenges.

Musa also called for support for the upcoming Military Games in Abuja, emphasizing the importance of sports in fostering unity and teamwork.

“ I congratulate the military team. They have done well. And this is what they are going to flow into. And I can assure you that they are going to win medals on ground.

“ I want to appeal to all Nigerians to come out and support the military during the games.
“ The upcoming Africa Military Games, is scheduled from November 18 to November 30 in Abuja.It’s important that we show support, because military men and women from all Africa are going to be here.
“ It’s important for us to show them the hospitality of Nigerians. So we are looking forward to it,” he said.

The Africa Military Games will feature 19 sporting events, with athletes from 54 African nations expected to participate.
