Coach Oyo Okonkwo of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) is confident that his team will secure two gold medals in the ongoing Comptroller General of Customs military and paramilitary wrestling championship.
The championship, tagged ‘National Wrestling Championship ABUJA 2024’, is organized by the Nigeria Wrestling Federation in collaboration with the Nigeria Chief of Defense Staff and Nigeria Customs Service.
The NSCDC’s Progress So Far, has already made a strong start, winning their first gold medal in the Greco Roman category on Tuesday.
Coach Okonkwo’s players also won two semi-final matches in the freestyle category and will compete in the final match on Thursday.
The team’s goal is to be among the top three agencies at the end of the competition.
According to him, “We came with six male players to contest in this game, and we’re determined to win gold medals in our final games,” Coach Okonkwo said.
“The boys are determined to win their final matches, and we hope to be among the first three agencies at the end of this competition.”
He commended the Comptroller General of Customs for sponsoring the championship, which started on October 19 and will end on Thursday at the Package B indoor hall of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium Abuja .
“We thank him for the great job, and we’re all happy as wrestlers that the CGC promised to make this championship an annual event,” he said.
