Nimrod Commends Nigerian Customs,Outlines Plans for Volleyball League Improvements

Musa Nimrod,  the  President of the Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF), has expressed his appreciation to the Comptroller General of Customs Alhaji Bashir Adewale Adeniyi  and the management for their unwavering support and collaboration in promoting volleyball in Nigeria.

Nimrod praised the NVBF League Management Committee for its decision to limit the participation off foreign players.

 He noted that this move has created opportunities for only local players to showcase their talents and has significantly increased the competitiveness of the league.

He reflecting on the challenges encountered during the first phase, with 12 games played in a single day, and difficulties related to inadequate lighting, which forced some games to run late into the night.

He assured that these issues will be addressed in the upcoming second phase, which will feature two courts in Abuja as of using one court as we did in the first phase.

The NVBF  has also committed to ensuring matches are not played late at night and will introduce neutral foreign referees to maintain fairness and integrity in the competition.

Nimrod emphasized the importance of addressing technical, financial, and security issues to ensure the smooth running of the league’s in the next phases.

Nimrod further highlighted the growing global interest in Nigerian volleyball, revealing that between 10,000 and 15,000 viewers are now watching the league’s matches online.

Looking ahead, Nimrod announced that the second phase of the league will take place in Abuja  in November.

He also disclosed that the Nigerian Customs Service has pledged to increase prize money, doubling the initial amount to further motivate players and teams.

He also  stressed out that the challenges of funding international trips, citing the high cost of traveling  to Cotonou for the under-17 teams.

He also confirmed that Nigeria’s under-17 volleyball teams have left for Cotonou, marking a key step in the NVBF’s strategy to develop young talent for future international competitions.

In spite ,these hurdles, he expressed confidence in the development of young players and reiterated his gratitude to the Customs Service for their continued support.

Nimrod said that the  NVBF  will continues to develop volleyball in Nigeria and enhance the league’s competitiveness on both national and international levels.

2024 Comptroller-General of Customs Volleyball Premier League which  started on August 26th ended on September 8th ,2024  at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.
