Unification FC eager to make a statement in debut NWFL Champions hip in the 2024 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Championship, is gearing up for a strong performance in the second-tier league.
Joining them in this competitive arena are Wasbak International, Heroes Queens, Papa Soccer Angels, and DreamStar Ladies.
In their inaugural NWFL Championship campaign, the Lagos side is determined to outperform more seasoned teams with top-flight experience. Team captain Olufemi Ifeoluwa expressed the team’s ambitious goal clearly.
“We aim to secure the promotion ticket,” Olufemi stated in an interview with www.thenwfl.com.
“There’s nothing to fear. We’ve faced several opponents at the Ifeanyi Chiejine Memorial Cup (ICMC) in Asaba and engaged in friendly matches. We’ve identified our weaknesses and are prepared to tackle them head-on.”
Unification FC’s preparation has included tune-up games against teams from the NWFL Premiership, Championship, and grassroots levels. Olufemi recounted their extensive preparation efforts.
“Since early last year, we have been diligently preparing. We participated in preseason competitions in Asaba, where we faced major NWFL Championship teams.
This year, we’ve also had friendly matches with two Premiership teams, two Championship teams, and two grassroots teams. We believe this has adequately prepared us for the Championship.”She added,
“While we have identified and addressed some lapses in previous games, including after the ICMC, recent friendly matches have shown visible improvements.
”The team management is enthusiastic about showcasing young talents during the Championship, with a focus on leveraging emerging players for their campaign.
Unification FC aims to increase the number of Lagos-based clubs in the top tier by earning promotion to the NWFL Premiership. Currently, FC Robo Queens and Dannaz Ladies are the two Lagos-based teams in the top flight, both of which are privately owned clubs.
