“Nigeria’s Medal Hopes and Dreams”in Paris 2024 Olympics
If Nigerian competitors concluded the Summer Olympics in Paris with a bronze or silver medal, they would truly be nowhere.…. Minister
The Minister of Sports Development, Sen. John Owan Enoh, has described the outing that If Nigerian competitors concluded the Paris 2024 Olympics Games in France with a bronze or silver medal, they would truly be nowhere.
He said that winning a bronze or silver medal at the present 2024 Olympic Games in Paris would not be a significant achievement for Nigerian competitors but implies that such a result would be unremarkable.
The comments of the Minister of Sports come after Nigeria’s medal drought continued from day one with no hope of clinching a medal in sight as the global sporting will end on August 11.
Enoh said the ongoing Summer Olympics in France, we can beginning to say that the 2012 Olympic is been repeated here in France .
The Minister stressed “How bad?
let me start by saying that ,My hope is that, you take advantage of this very bad moments, of this very poor outing, disastrous, you may say. You can take advantage of it and turns it to a huge positive for Nigeria’s Sports.
“ You can turn it’s to huge positive for Nigeria’s Sports and why i said this is because I have looked albeit from the history and I find that in 2012 we were in the same position.
“ In 2012, Nigeria went to the Olympics and we returned with “No Medal “ and the Olympics happening now in Paris 2024 is not yet technically 100 percent over.
“ As Nigerians we have high hopes for our athletes, expecting them to win, achieve greater success.
“ We have reached a point in which, we can beginning to say perhaps that the 2012 is been repeated here and so we are in a similar situation in 2012,” Minister said.
According to him, we can use the outcome of this Olympics as bad as it’s have been as to yield a positive for Nigeria’s sports.
“ Maybe we eventually emerged out here ( Paris) with one bronze or one sliver whatever, we will think that we have try but maybe is very important for Nigeria team to know that we are eventually nowhere,” he said .
Enoh who also emphasized on Nigeria’s performance in previous Olympic Games said that this might have set a high bar, making bronze or silver medals seem less impressive that those results are not a results that a country like Nigeria should get in an Olympics .
“ So let the outcome of this Olympics be that of an eye opener that the country have been waiting for ,that we need to go back to the very basis.
“ The outing of Nigeria competitors have done well for the country and am proud of the athletes despite the outcome of the Olympics,” Minister added.
He said , let’s turned what’s have happened to huge positives for Nigeria’s sports, let’s hope that what’s have happened now have turned atheneum towards what’s this sectors requires.
Enoh who stated this at a media parley held at the Nigerian Embassy in Paris on Friday.
