IHF Women’s Championship : Nigeria’s Under-18 Women’s Team in Lagos for final preparations
The National Under 18 Women’s Handball team are back in Lagos for their last phase of preparation ahead of the IHF Women’s Under 18 World Cup in China.
Eighteen players were invited to camp for intense preparatory training ahead of the 2024 IHF Women’s Under 18 Handball World Championship, which will take place in Chuzhou, China from August 14 to August 25, 2024.
Coach Shittu Adewunmi Agboola’s tutored team had started preparations in Benin City, Edo State.
Shittu said the first phase of camping was a rewarding experience for all the players and the technical crew. He also paid kudos to the Handball Federation of Nigeria (HFN) led by Mr. Samuel Ocheho for the continued support thus far as they hope to make history at the world championship.
According to Shittu, both the technical team and all of the players had a positive experience during the initial camping period.
Additionally, he expressed gratitude to the Handball Federation of Nigeria (HFN), under the direction of Mr. Samuel Ocheho, for the ongoing support as they prepare to create history at the global championship.
The players and the technical staff found the first phase of training in Benin City to be rewarding and worthwhile, and we are grateful to the Samuel Ocheho-led Handball Federation of Nigeria board for making sure we have the best possible preparation ahead of the world championship.”
He also said the last days of camping at the Rowe Park Sports Center in Lagos is to put finishing touches to their plans ahead of the world championship.
Nigeria is one of the four countries that will represent the continent of Africa in the world cup after they qualified for the first time at the Africa Women’s Under 18 Handball Nations Cup in Monastir, Tunisia last year.
They had played in the IHF Trophy series and finished second globally and are in pole position as one of the most exciting handball teams for the world championship.
The Nigeria under 18 girls team will play European giant Croatia, Montenegro and Angola in group B of the world championship which starts on August 18 at the Olympic Sports Center in Chuzhou, China.
