Nigeria successfully advanced to the Davis Cup World Group II
At the ongoing Group III Africa Qualifier, Nigeria defeated Ghana in the first two rubbers to formally secure promotion to Davis Cup World Group II.
With identical score lines, the Nigerian duo of Michael Emmanuel and Christopher Bulus defeated the Ghanaian duo of Abraham Asaba and Isaac Nortey.
Bulus secured the first win with a 6-3, 6-2 win before Emmanuel finished the second rubber with the same result.
Regardless of the result in the third rubber, Nigeria has surely secured promotion to World Group II after the five-day competition ended on today (Saturday).
From all indications, Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire will be relegated to Group IV while Benin Republic will remain in Africa Group III.
Zimbabwe and Namibia are the two other countries that will join Nigeria in the World Group II after securing impressive wins at the event in Abuja.
